Christmas is coming! A time for nostalgic songs to sing along to, kindness to others whether friend or stranger and joy that comes with familiar traditions.
Christmas may have moved on from its religious beginnings but whatever oneâs beliefs it certainly brings feelings of happiness and fun. A time to relax and reflect on the year behind us, to spoil our loved ones and think of others less fortunate than ourselves. A time to wear silly sweaters all month, to eat chocolate without guilt and kick back and watch an old movie or two!
Christmas is a time when pets are often gifted and itâs important to pay attention to new arrivals to make the transition to their new homes as stress free as possible. Important too if one is the gifter to provide food and bedding as part of the gift. đÂ

I love shopping! I have been to some really lovely shops in Bond Street, London, Madison Avenue, New York and Rodeo Drive, Los Angeles. It is especially fun at Christmas time when all the fancy lights make the streets look magical.
I have a special collar to wear at Christmas time which looks as though itâs made of diamonds but I donât think even my person would spend that much money on me! She does love spending money though and visiting the fancy shops which I love too as the people in the shops make a great fuss of me and want me to sit on their laps for cuddles.
My person wonât let them give me food though as she says I have to watch my weight just like her!
Because shopping can be quite tiring my person has a special bag for me to sit in and she carries me round from shop to shop which her friends think is really cute. I love my person, her friends and our life together, she takes really good care of me but sometimes I wish I had a doggie friend too.
My name is Princess Lola, but everyone calls me Lolo, I am a Chihuahua and my personâs name is Charlotte.

A month for reflection and time to give thanks. A month for travel and spending time with relatives. A month for remembering to be patient and for holding oneâs tongue! Yes, itâs Thanksgiving this month! Lots of anticipation, too much food and a sense that actually, only seeing your loved ones now and again may not be such a bad thing after all! (Iâm joking of course đ).
A big part of all our families are our pets who provide us with love, comfort and company all year round and deserve special treatment too when we focus on things to be thankful for. Itâs great to have your dog accompany you on a post lunch walk, your cat to cuddle up with to watch a Thanksgiving movie or your horse to go for a brisk ride on. Our pets give us another dimension to family, someone to talk to without fear of reproach or ridicule, someone to play games and be silly with and someone to love unconditionally.
Enjoy your family time, your pets and time to reflect on the good things of life.
Happy Thanksgiving!Â

I am fortunate to have a very large house with lots of room for my bed area and activity equipment. On the whole I prefer to be alone but my provider is very special and understands my need to sleep during the day. Most evenings she talks to me and sometimes cuddles me gently in her hands.
It took me a while to get used to her but when I realized how gentle she is I began to relax into her cuddles and even to like the way she stroked my back.
The level of service from my provider is very high indeed, every day she supplies me with fresh food and water and her housekeeping skills are second to none. She never leaves the light on in the room my house is in and doesnât mind if I play all night! I have some permanent activity equipment in my house, like my big wheel, I love running round and round and sometimes I almost forget to stop itâs such fun. My provider, who is called Jenny by the way, puts different things in my home like tubes and balls which I can play with for hours.
My favorite place though is my nesting box, it has a great tunnel entrance and lovely nesting material which I can burrow into at the end of the night and sleep the day away ready for my first cuddle of the evening.
My name is Harry and I am a golden hamster.

A long, long time ago my great, great, great, great grandfather, Thanatos, lived with a wizard đ§ââď¸It was an interesting life according to family folklore. He used to help his wizard companion find plants and insects for use in his spells, mostly good spells although sometimes bad spells would be cast when true evil was around.
Thanatos and his wizard friend used to travel the known universe in search of beings who needed help, sometimes they faced great darkness and encountered evil the like of which we cannot imagine today.
My mother told me that I look very like Thanatos and uncannily I seem to be attracted to people with âspecialâ skills but I only want to be with good people. However I am always on the prowl for horrid people who need a reminder to mend their ways, especially at this time of year.
My name is Neville and I am a very black cat đâ⏠youâd better look out for me crossing your path!

Tips for Safety and Comfort on the Trail
Caring for your dog when hiking is important to ensure their safety, comfort and well being. Here are some tips to help you take care of your furry friend during a hiking trip.
Prepare: Check if the trail allows dogs. Some trails have restrictions on dogs, so make sure the trail you plan to hike is dog-friendly. Ensure your dog is physically fit for the hike. Consider your dog's age, breed, and overall health before embarking on a strenuous hike.
Pack: Bring plenty of water for both you and your dog. Dogs can get dehydrated quickly, especially during physical activity and carry a collapsible water bowl for your dog to drink from. Pack dog-specific food and treats to keep your dog energized and donât forget the poop bags. Pack a doggie blanket in case the weather turns cold.
Equipment: Use a well-fitting harness instead of a collar as a harness is safer for your dog's neck, especially if they pull. Attach a leash to your dog's harness, even if your dog is well-trained off-leash, it's a good idea to have them leashed in unfamiliar environments to prevent accidents and encounters with wildlife.
Health and safety: Apply flea and tick prevention measures before the hike to protect your dog from pests and make sure your dog's vaccinations are up-to-date.
Carry a basic first aid kit that includes SalJetPet to clean cuts, scratches and bites and to wash eyes and ears. Also bandages, antiseptic, and tweezers for removing splinters or ticks.
Other stuff: Have rest breaks for you and your dog, donât get over heated and donât get too cold!
Have a plan in case of emergencies and make a note of the nearest veterinary clinics or animal hospitals in the area you're hiking. Finally, do tell somebody what your hiking plan is before you leave home.
Enjoy!
There are a huge number of films starring dogs both in cartoon form or as in life. Often of course the starring dog is just a foil for a famous actor, think Tom Hanks, Jennifer Aniston and Channing Tatum. (Read to the end to see if you knew the films these folk were in).
Â
There have been cute dogs, think Tramp in Lady and the Tramp, what a romantic figure he cut and Lady was just plain adorable. Protective dogs, Mum and Dad in 101 Dalmatianâs guarding all those adorable puppies from Cruella. Working dogs with important work in the military and rescue services, dogs just having fun or just being plain silly.
Â
What the movies do for dogs is give them a voice. How often have we wondered what our pet dogs are thinking, as humans we cannot resist giving animals the gift of speech.
Â
The latest doggie film, Strays, seems to be giving a voice to teenage or disaffected dogs and maybe making a point about us owners and how good or bad our behaviour can be towards our pet dogs.
Â
Tell us what your favourite doggie film is by submitting your decision below and letâs have our own award program! Visit www.saljetpet/doggie film, results at the end of September.
